The Appraisal Institute (AI), founded in 1932 and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is one of the oldest and most respected professional associations for real estate appraisers in the United States. AI is dedicated to advancing the standards, ethics, and education of the real property valuation profession. Its members specialize in residential and commercial real estate appraisal. AI confers prestigious designations including MAI (Member, Appraisal Institute) for commercial valuation professionals and SRA (Senior Residential Appraiser) for residential specialists. All members must adhere to AI’s Code of Professional Ethics and comply with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). The organization also publishes industry research, practice guides, and provides expert input on real estate market issues to policymakers and the public.
